SALEM REACH 1
PIPELINE PROJECT
ABOUT
The Central Utah Water Conservancy District (CUWCD), together with Ames Construction, are installing the Salem Reach 1 segment of the Spanish Fork/Santaquin Pipeline--a 60 inch steel pipe to be buried within the Salem Canal Road from Elk Ridge Drive to Woodland Hills Drive. The existing Salem Canal (open canal and shallow pipe) will be removed, lowered and replaced with a 42-inch HDPE pipeline.
In addition, Salem City is using this opportunity to install new storm drains along portions of Salem Canal Road, 300 West, 100 East, 500 East, and 300 South, as well as additional curb and a public trail along the north side of Salem Canal Road (see map below). Also, Salem Canal Road will be straightened by shifting the roadway southward between 500 East and 240 East and installing a full-width city street. After all the work is complete, a new asphalt surface will be placed along Salem Canal Road.

SALEM CANAL ROAD
UPDATES
Construction crews continue work along various sections of Salem Canal Road and 300 South to finish installing storm drain pipes, utility work, building retaining walls, and road reconstruction. The project is about 2/3 complete (see Project Overview below); the Salem Canal has been removed and replaced, installation of the 60-inch pipe is complete, and roadway reconstruction and paving has begun on Salem Canal Road (see roadway drawing above). The following provides updates on the various roadways and maps to help navigate around the work zones.
SALEM CANAL ROAD (EAST) - ROADWAY OPEN
Roadway paving along Salem Canal Road (from 500 East to Woodland Hills Drive) is now complete and the road is open again for traffic in all directions.
450 EAST TO 250 WEST - CLOSED FOR EXCAVATION/RECONSTRUCTION
Salem Canal Road is now closed to thru traffic (open for local traffic only) from 450 East to 250 West while crews excavate and prepare the roadway for reconstruction. Roadway paving has begun from 450 East to 100 East and will continue this week.
450/500 EAST INTERSECTION CLOSED
The intersection at 450/500 East and Salem Canal Road is now closed to traffic in all directions for utility work and to prepare for reconstruction and paving. See map below for options to help navigate around the closure.
100 EAST INTERSECTION OPEN (PARTIALLY)
The intersection at 100 East and Salem Canal Road is now open to traffic north and south, while traffic east and west remains restricted for roadway reconstruction and paving. See map below for options to help navigate around the construction zones.
300 WEST INTERSECTION (PARTIALLY OPEN)
The intersection at Salem Canal Road and 300 West remains open for traffic to and from the West and eastward to the 250 West intersection.
MT. LOAFER ELEMENTARY - SAFE WALK/CROSSING AND TRAFFIC UPDATE
The school's safe walk/crossing route includes crossing guards at both 250 West and 180 West on Salem Canal Road to assist the children/pedestrians when crossing. Staff and parents/students are able to access the school on 250 West from either north or south (see map below).
SALEM CANAL ROAD (WEST) / AMERICAN PREPARATORY ACADEMY (APA)
Work continues along Salem Canal Road between Elk Ridge Drive and 300 West; consequently, that section of roadway is mostly single-lane access and remains restricted for thru traffic. Access (drop-off and pick-up) for APA students and staff remains available from Elk Ridge Drive and Salem Canal Road, as usual.
DRIVEWAYS/PARKING/IMPACTS
The affected roadways will remain accessible for local traffic (with some limitations); however, as they progress in front of each property, access will be restricted temporarily. On-street parking will be prohibited along the streets. Residents nearby may experience some noise, dust, and vibrations from the equipment.
Please drive slowly and be cautious as portions of the roadways are not paved and may be uneven, especially with wet conditions.
SAFETY
PLEASE, BE CAREFUL! For your own safety and others, pay close attention to workers, signs and equipment, and maintain a safe distance when driving, biking or walking near construction work zones.
NO ENTRY ZONES
Signs and barriers are positioned for your safety. Do not move existing barricades, signs, or enter taped-off areas; violators may be fined.
