SALEM REACH 1
PIPELINE PROJECT

SERVICES

ABOUT

The Central Utah Water Conservancy District (CUWCD), together with Ames Construction, are installing the Salem Reach 1 segment of the Spanish Fork/Santaquin Pipeline--a 60 inch steel pipe to be buried within the Salem Canal Road from Elk Ridge Drive to Woodland Hills Drive. The existing Salem Canal (open canal and shallow pipe) will be removed, lowered and replaced with a 42-inch HDPE pipeline.

In addition, Salem City is using this opportunity to install new storm drains along portions of Salem Canal Road, 300 West, 100 East, 500 East, and 300 South, as well as additional curb and a public trail along the north side of Salem Canal Road (see map below). Also,  Salem Canal Road will be straightened by shifting the roadway southward between 500 East and 240 East and installing a full-width city street. After all the work is complete, a new asphalt surface will be placed along Salem Canal Road.

SALEM CANAL ROAD

ABOUT

UPDATES

Construction crews continue work along various sections of Salem Canal Road and 300 South to finish utility work, building retaining walls, and road reconstruction. The project is about 2/3 complete (see Project Overview below); the Salem Canal has been removed and replaced, installation of the 60-inch pipe is complete, and roadway reconstruction continues on Salem Canal Road (see roadway drawing below). The following provides updates on the various roadways and maps to help navigate around the work zones.

SALEM CANAL ROAD (EAST/WEST) - ROADWAY OPEN
Roadway paving along Salem Canal Road (from Woodland Hills Drive to Elk Ridge Drive) is now mostly complete and the road is open again for traffic in all directions. However, the intersection at 250 West will be temporarily closed for paving (see below), and some manhole and other work continues along other various portions of the roadway; please drive slowly and pay close attention to maneuver safely around the cones and work zones.

250 WEST CLOSURE FOR PAVING
Another/top layer of asphalt is scheduled to be installed from 100 West to 300 West this week on Tuesday, November 14. Consequently, the intersections at 250 West and 180 West on Salem Canal Road will be closed until paving is complete. See map below for suggested detour options to help navigate around the closures. The intersections and roadway are expected to be open and accessible again on Wednesday, November 15.

LOAFER CANYON ROAD CLOSURE
Another project (Arive Homes) is scheduled to close a portion of the roadway on Loafer Canyon Road, also beginning Tuesday, November 14. This closure is expected to last several weeks.

MT. LOAFER ELEMENTARY
School access is scheduled for normal routes Tuesday morning until 9:15am. Paving on Salem Canal Road is expected to last into the evening, so the map (below) will assist with navigation to access the school for the remainder of the day. The school's safe walk/crossing routes will continue with crossing guards at 250 West and Salem Canal Road to assist the children/pedestrians when crossing.

It is anticipated that Salem Canal Road and 250 West will be open again Wednesday morning for school drop off.

AMERICAN PREPARATORY ACADEMY (APA)
Temporary roadway paving is now complete on Salem Canal Road from Elk Ridge Drive to 850 West, north of the academy. Access (drop-off and pick-up) for APA students and staff remains available from Elk Ridge Drive and Salem Canal Road, as usual.

DRIVEWAYS/PARKING/IMPACTS
The affected roadways will remain acce
ssible for local traffic (with some limitations); however, as they progress in front of each property, access will be restricted temporarily. On-street parking will be prohibited along the streets. Residents nearby may experience some noise, dust, and vibrations from the equipment.

Please drive slowly and be cautious as portions of the roadways are not paved and may be uneven, especially with wet conditions.

SAFETY
PLEASE, BE CAREFUL! For your own safety and others, pay close attention to workers, signs and equipment, and maintain a safe distance when driving, biking or walking near construction work zones.

NO ENTRY ZONES
Signs and barriers are positioned for your safety. Do not move existing barricades, signs, or enter taped-off areas; violators may be fined.
